An Opportunity to Grow in Christian Education

Doctoral degrees available from Newburgh include the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) the Doctor of Theology, (Th.D.) the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)  and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.).  The Doctor of Education specializes in Christian Education. All Newburgh Ph.D. degrees specialize in ministry or biblical studies.

Overall, the Ed.D. tends to be more project based, while the Ph.D. is more research based and theoretical in nature. The EdD. allows you the flexibility of pursuing a project based paper or research based paper.

The Doctor of Education degree requires 50 hours. This includes 30 hours of coursework and 20 hours of doctoral dissertation work.

Research based papers or project based papers must be a minimum of 60 pages with a minimum of 20 references in the bibliography.  Most Newburgh doctoral papers average 80 - 150 pages.  A 60 page paper is acceptable only if it is exceptionally substantive and well written.

The doctoral candidate must hold a Master's degree and make application to Newburgh through either the Academic Evaluation or Enrollment Application. Please submit your Master's transcript via mail to Newburgh Theological Seminary, P.O. Box 1238, Newburgh, Indiana 47629.

Please utilize the website to submit your doctoral theme idea whether project based or researched based.

Six courses or thirty hours of text work must be completed toward the Ed.D. Each course requires the reading of the textbook and submission of a 10-20 page review summary of the text material. The paper is simply a summary of what you have read and learned from the text, put into your own words. Do not plagiarize.

At least three of the courses must be used from this page in the completion of this degree.

You may alternate up to three texts in this program as long as the texts come from other doctoral programs found on this website.

You are allowed up to three No Travel seminars to use as electives.
The three no travel seminars may be biblical studies, ministry, pastoral leadership, biblical preaching or Christian counseling type seminars as these seminars may be relative to your doctoral theme study or project.  No travel seminars are optional and never required.  If you choose not to order any no travel seminars you must utilize six of the texts from this page.
