Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies

Purpose:
To give the student an overall basic understanding of the Old and New Testaments.

Degree Requirements:The bachelor degree program in Biblical Studies requires 120 credit hours. Eighty-Five (85) hours of previous education or life experience may be granted. Thirty-five (35) hours of coursework must be completed at Newburgh Theological Seminary and College of the Bible before the degree is granted. Seven 5-hour courses constitute the thirty-five (35) hours needed. All coursework is either emailed or sent via USPS to the students academic advisor.(NOTE: Assignments mailed to the school should always be accompanied with a self addressed stamped envelope so that the work may be returned.)

Curriculum:
Seven of the following books may be chosen. Your books may be ordered at one time, however, Students are encouraged to take one course at a time. Each book constitutes five hours of credit or one course.

  • BS 300 Encountering The Old Testament: A Christian survey, by Bill T. Arnold
  • BS 320 A Survey of Old Testament Introduction, by Archer Gleason, Jr.
  • BS 340 30 Days to Understanding the Bible in 15 Minutes a Day by, Max Anders
  • BS 360 The Bible From Scratch: The New Testament for Beginners, by Donald L. Griggs
  • BS 380 Encountering The New Testament: A Historical and Theological Survey, by Walter L. Elwell
  • BS 400 The Bible Jesus Read, by Phillip Yancey
  • BS 420 Who Wrote the Bible, by Richard E. Friedman
  • BS 440 The Secret Teachings of Jesus, by Marvin Meyer
  • BS 460 Introducing the New Testament, by John William Drane
  • BS 480 The Epistle to the Romans, by Leon Morris

After you have read your first book complete the following assignments. All papers should be typed, double-spaced, written with good grammar and checked for spelling errors.

For each book write a ten to fifteen page paper to summarize the book, the following should be addressed in each paper:

  • The title of the book.
  • The author of the book.
  • Write a ten to fifteen page paper. Summarize briefly what each chapter is about. 
    This may require about one page per chapter or a couple or a couple of paragraphs.
  • Study enables us to gain new information and insights. Write out
    five to ten new truths you have learned.
  • How might this book benefit you in your life or ministry?
  • Do your best in reading and presentation. Do this work for you and for God. This is for you and the ministry God has called you to in His kingdom.  Check for spelling, typos and use good grammar.
