Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Education

The Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Education degree guides the student through the graduate level of courses and dissertation study for continued development in the field of Christian Education.

This degree requires fifty hours of study consisting of six graduate courses and dissertation.

This is an excellent program for anyone who wants to move on to the next level in the field of Christian education study.

Books for each course must be read with the following assignment for each textbook:

We are simply looking for a good summary of the textbook. Graders want to see that you read and learned something from the textbook.

  • What are the five most impressive truths or concepts you learned from the book?
  • Summarize each chapter of the book in one to two pages.
  • Explain in one page how this book may help you in your future Christian education endeavors.

Total length of paper will be between 10 to 20 pages.

  • DCE 650 Building An Effective Church School: Guide for the Superintendent and Board of Christian Education by Kenneth D. Blazer
  • DCE 670 The Effective Teacher: A Christian?s Guide To Teaching by Bennie E. Goodwin
  • DCE 680 Effective Christian School Management by James W. Deuink
  • DCE 690 Five Dynamic Dimensions for Effective Teaching by Kevin Treston
  • DCE 700 Effective Bible Teaching by Betty A. Carroll
  • DCE  710 The God-Bearing Life: The Art of Soul Tending for Youth Ministry by Kenda Creasy Dean
  • DCE 720 Christian Education Handbook by Bruce P. Powers

The dissertation should be between 60 - 125 pages following the guidelines stated by Kate Turabians guidebook for preparing dissertations. This book may be ordered via Amazon.com

The Theme for the dissertation should be submitted to the seminary committee within six months of enrollment into the school. A theme, paragraph and one page outline about the direction of the dissertation may be emailed to the faculty committee at schoolassignment@aol.com
