Bachelor of Arts in Christian Creative Writing
Master of Arts in Chritian Creative Writing (scroll down)

Purpose:
To acquaint the degree candidate with a broader understanding and experience of the art of creative writing.

Degree Requirements:
The bachelor degree program in Creative Writing requires 120 credit hours. Eighty-five (85) hours of previous education or life experience may be granted. Thirty-five (35) hours of coursework must be completed at Newburgh Theological Seminary and College of the Bible before the degree is granted. Seven 5-hour courses constitute the thirty (35) hours needed. All coursework is either emailed or sent via USPS to the students academic advisor. (NOTE: Assignments mailed to the school should always be accompanied with a self addressed stamped envelope so that the work may be returned.)

Curriculum:
Seven of the following books may be chosen. Your books may be ordered at one time, however, Students are encouraged to take one course at a time. Each book constitutes five hours of credit or one course.

  • CW 300 On Writing Well, 25th Anniversary: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction, by William K. Zinsser
  • CW 320 Writing Alone and With Others, by Pat Schneider and Peter Elbow
  • CW 340 A Manual for Writing Term Papers, Theses and Dissertations, by Kate L. Turabian
  • CW 380 Writing Fiction: The Practical Guide from New York's Acclaimed Creative Writing School, by Gotham Writer's Workshop
  • CW 400 Writing Creative Nonfiction: Instruction and Insights, from Teachers of the Associated Writing Programs
  • CW 420 The Right to Write: An Invitation and Initiation into the Writing Life, by Julia Cameron 
    BS  280  A Popular Survey of the New Testament by Norman Geisler

After you have read your first book complete the following assignments. All papers should be typed, double-spaced without grammatical or spelling errors. For each book write a ten to fifteen page paper to address the following:

  • What are the ten major themes of the book?
  • State five principles you learned in this study.
  • Which chapter made the greatest impression on you and explain why.
  • Write down each chapter title and summarize each chapter in two to three  paragraphs.

When all seven textbooks are read and the above papers are completed the student must submit a creative writing paper of ten to twenty pages. This paper should follow the rules learned in the study. The story may be related to ministry, church experiences, fictional, nonfiction...or anything that the student wishes to write about that will honor Jesus Christ.

This degree program is for the serious writer who desires advanced study in Christian Creative Writing. 
Select seven of the following texts. 
Write a ten to twenty page paper on each book.
Summarize what you read and leaned.
Include ten principles you learned in your reading.
Write two pages on your favorite chapter. 
List some of the major themes of the book.

Once you have completed your seven book assignments write a five to ten page story.
Story may be fiction or non-fiction. Must have a Christian theme. Mail or email your story to us.
